PART II: AEROSPACE OVERVIEW
Bernard Bayou Industrial District
focus: composites
...The old adage of the real estate industry might very well apply to Harrison
County when it comes to the aerospace industry: location, location, location.
The largest of the three coastal counties has the largest population and arguably,
the most diverse economy of the three.
...But the portion of the aerospace industry it can lay claim to is significant.
...Bernard Bayou Industrial District has become the gathering point for a group
of businesses involved in composites. While none is specifically designated as
part of the aerospace industry,
...Bernard Bayou Industrial District is home to Northrop Grumman Ship
Systems Gulfport Operations, which is the company's composite center of
excellence. Next door is Trinity Yacht, and beyond that is Seemann Composites,
a company that has built a name for itself as a specialty fabricator that has
worked closely with some of the largest names in the business on DoD
contracts, including several in the aerospace field.
...Just down the street from Seemann is the Gulfport facility for Dubai-based
Future Pipe Industries. And while that company makes huge pipes for the oil
and gas industry, it also hopes to play a role in opening up a research and
technology center here.
...Although Bernard Bayou has developed as a center for composites work, it's
not the only center in the Mississippi Gulf Coast. In Hancock County, Port
Bienville Industrial Park has its share of advanced materials companies. GE
Plastics, Wellman, PolyChemie and Solvay Advanced Polymers.
